Purpose: Debate is a process that involves formal discussion on a particular
topic. In a debate, opposing arguments are put forward to argue for
opposing viewpoints. Debate occurs in public meetings, academic
institutions, and legislative assemblies

Purpose: Cheerleading teaches discipline, time management, resilience, and effective communication skills, which are valuable in various aspects of life. Purpose: Library club is a student group that helps keep the library neat, organized, and welcoming for everyone. Gardening club is a fun, hands-on group where students learn how to grow plants, flowers, and vegetables. Kids work together to plant seeds, water and care for the garden, and watch things grow over time. Snapology - Robotics

Description: In Snapology’s Robotics Club, students will actively engage with the principles of science, technology, engineering, art, and mathematics as they build and program robots. Students will learn about motors, sensors, and coding as they use LEGO® technic pieces and other elements to build various robotic creatures, vehicles and amazing contraptions.
Class fees include:
- 12 weeks of instruction from a trained Snapology instructor, including robotics, coding, science, engineering and 2 challenge weeks. (each class is 1.5 hours for grades 3-5 and 1 hour for grades K-2)
- All materials are provided for weekly class sessions and showcase event (materials are reused week to week, students do not keep their creations from class or events)
- Participation in the STEAM Showcase at the end of the semester

Lil' Voices - Public Speaking

Purpose: HPS-wide/ Regional Competition - Presented in partnership with FTW Robotics and Rice University,
HPS Drone Race is the perfect event offering elementary, middle school and high school students an
opportunity to get hands-on experience in STEM education in the form of an affordable, fast-paced
game. Students will learn to safely operate a drone, work as a team, and research workforce applications
of aerial robotic technology; all while having a blast!

Mentoring & Organizations

The National Elementary Honor Society (NEHS) provides students in grades 4–6 a place to develop and apply their passion for service, while obtaining the skills to be confident young leaders for years to come.
NEHS membership is centered on recognizing students for their accomplishments while challenging and equipping them to develop further as leaders through service to their school and community.
This club is by invitation only. Students cannot sign-up to join, but they can express interest in the club. We will start the initiation process in late September.
